Graduate Colvin Scholarship Application

Developed in 1999 when Louis M. “Mick” Colvin retired as executive director, the Colvin Scholarship Fund recognizes his role in making dreams a reality and inspiring others to be their best. Colvin co-founded the Certified Angus Beef ® brand program in 1978, leading it to provide the world’s leading brand of fresh beef. The scholarship benefits tomorrow’s leaders who are involved in their communities and committed to the continued success and progression of the beef industry.

 

Graduate scholarship(s) to be awarded:

A scholarship valued at $7,500 will be awarded to the top graduate student selected from among those submitting complete applications based on the merit of their activities and scholastic achievement, communication skills, reference letters and the relevance of their research to the advancement of high-quality beef production and increasing beef demand.  While only one graduate scholarship has been awarded historically, additional graduate scholarships of various amounts may be granted from year to year.

 

Application Requirements:

  1. Demonstrate a commitment to the beef industry through the pursuit of a graduate degree in meat science, food science, animal science, economics, marketing, business, communications or other degree related to the beef industry; in addition, provide examples of academic performance, research potential and scientific merit through leadership positions and industry activities*
  2. Have enough credit hours to be a recognized, full-time master’s or doctorate student, conducting applied or basic research, and set to graduate after the 2021 fall term
  3. Provide your research project and share how the information could affect the beef industry and high-quality beef production, keeping in mind that some projects may have significant influence in the long term only; please include any project contributors*
  4. A high-resolution, color photo of you to be used for publicity purposes**
  5. Two recommendation letters from individuals, other than family members, who are knowledgeable of your integrity, dependability, motivation and leadership potential***
  6. A copy of your transcripts from all colleges and universities attended***

 

Additional Details:

  • All scholarship funds will be paid directly to the recipient for tuition, fees, books, room and board, or other direct, college expenses upon providing proof of enrollment for the 2021 fall semester
  • Certified Angus Beef LLC employees’ immediate family members are not eligible to apply

Applications must be postmarked or received by Jan. 31, 2021.

The Colvin Scholarship Fund Advisory Committee administers all fundraising, judging criteria and award selection. The committee will notify the applicant of the results by April 2021, and will further recognize the top applicant with an all-expenses-paid trip to the Certified Angus Beef ® Annual Conference, Sept. 22-24, 2021, in Marco Island, FL.
